Today was the day.. we had planned to do a long cross country flight with a solo at the end but a maintenance issue stopped us from using the plane I scheduled so we had to shift to a plane that we could only use for a hour. My instructor and I did some class work and review for my up coming FAA check ride. Then he told me.. lets go get you soloed.
We pre-flighted and headed out for a few quick trips around the pattern. After two touch and go's, on the third stop my instructor told me to drop him off at the transit line, as he got out I was given instruction to go do two touch and go's and then complete a full stop, and come get me. So I dropped him off, and then headed out. It was nice to fly by myself. The tower was great, they knew what was going on, so they cleared the right runway the best they could and and let me fly. As I taxied back to pick up my instructor, the tower congratulated me on my solo. It's nice to work with such professionals.
After picking up my instructor he debriefed me and told me to plan on a long cross country for our next flight, once we complete that he said he'd let me go on cross countries on my own. After chatting a little about all the places he'd let me go, I left super excited. So I have much work to do.
This was my third solo, but a first at a controlled airport. The other two were at quiet little Midwest airports. I was super happy, about how it went.
However the rest of this week will be confined to studying as I'm volunteering as a motorcycle media rider for the St George, UT Iron Man competition. I'm there supporting my brother in-law, and having fun while doing it.
Until the next flight..
